The fire was declared 100% contained at 2 p.m. Monday, officials said, although mop-up efforts were to continue into the evening.
The fire started off Airport Road in Lakewood and was first reported at 1:40 p.m. Sunday. It damaged homes in Brick Lake Park and shut down the Garden State Parkway between exits 83 and 90 as well as several highways.
The exact location of fire's origin has been determined, authorities said, although they have not revealed details except to rule out that it was part of a prescribed burn.
