Summary
Heavy rain is likely Thursday, along with gusty winds - possibly 50 mph on a regular basis.
Then temperatures plummet from the 50s Thursday to 20s by Friday afternoon.
This could cause a flash freeze and perhaps some snow.
This is assuming there is a decent amount of precipitation after temperatures fall.
A major 'artic blast' will be dropping into the US Wednesday night. This will transfer eastward towards us.
Above are 1am Thursday and 7am Friday.
One forecaster quotes the European computer model and portrays ice and snow moving through later Thursday.
The above model, the GFS, also shows snow working in.
The cold air will be moving eastward, and temperatures should be near freezing by that point.
Key Consideration:
-Is there enough precipitation after it gets cold enough for snow?
What is Known:
-Very cold air is moving in, and there is high confidence in this (75% chance and we are still 5-6 days away).
-Any rain, even if there is no snow, could present major ice problems Friday.
